The Making of Mami
Mami Wata is a beautiful, protective, seductive, and dangerous water spirit. The name Mami Wata (Mother Water) is celebrated throughout much of Africa and the African Atlantic. She is often depicted as a mother goddess with long hair dark skin and will visit you in dreams honoring your wish with a cost. She has often been illustrated as a snake barer perhaps a representation of the spine and the sacred nature of water. The Mami is not strictly female but is a name given to the re-civilizers of humanity after the last great global flood.
Afua is illustrating her stories in a modern retelling called Aquarius the book of mer. Coming soon.
